What does newborn care include?
A newborn check looks at weight, feeding, skin colour, breathing, heart rate, reflexes and the hips, eyes and mouth. We also talk through sleep, umbilical cord care, bathing and when to bring the baby back. The aim is to catch small problems early and to answer the many questions new parents have.
When should you see the paediatrician?

Frequently asked questions
When is the first newborn check-up?
Ideally within the first week after discharge, or earlier if your baby has feeding trouble or jaundice. Your hospital discharge advice should guide the exact timing.
Is newborn jaundice dangerous?
Mild jaundice is common and often settles, but some babies need treatment. Have yellow skin checked by a doctor, especially in the first days.
Do you give vaccines for newborns?
Yes. We follow the recommended schedule and explain which vaccines are due at each visit.
