Whether you play cricket, football or just exercise, a sprain or strain can stop you in your tracks. Dr. Y. Srinivas Rao diagnoses sports injuries and builds a safe plan to get you moving again.
Common sports injuries
Ankle sprains, hamstring and muscle strains, knee ligament tears, tennis or golfer’s elbow and shoulder problems are common. Correct early care and a proper diagnosis prevent minor injuries from becoming long-term problems.
First aid: remember RICE
- Rest the injured area
- Ice for 15–20 minutes at a time
- Compression with a bandage
- Elevation above heart level
- See a doctor the same day if you cannot bear weight, the joint looks deformed or swelling is severe
How we treat sports injuries
We examine the injury, arrange X-ray or MRI when necessary, and start treatment with bracing, medicines and physiotherapy. If a ligament or tendon is badly torn, we discuss surgical options and rehabilitation.
- Diagnosis with examination and imaging
- Bracing, taping and physiotherapy
- Return-to-sport planning
- Surgery for severe tears if needed
Recovery and aftercare
Most sprains and strains improve over a few weeks with proper rehabilitation. Returning too soon is the commonest reason for repeat injury.
Frequently asked questions
Should I use heat or ice?
Use ice for the first couple of days; heat may help stiffness later.
Can I keep exercising with an injury?
Avoid activities that cause pain until a doctor has assessed the injury.
How long before I can play again?
It depends on the injury. We set milestones so the return is safe.
