Hydrocele Surgery in Vanasthalipuram

Doctor examining a lump on the forearm, lumps and cysts treatment

A painless swelling of the scrotum is often a hydrocele, a common and treatable condition in boys and men. Dr. K. Praveen Reddy examines the swelling, confirms the cause and performs hydrocele surgery when it is needed.

What is a hydrocele?

A hydrocele is a collection of fluid around the testicle that makes one or both sides of the scrotum swell. In babies it may be present from birth and often settles by itself. In adults it can develop slowly, or after infection, injury or other conditions. A hydrocele is usually painless but can become heavy and uncomfortable.

When to see a surgeon

  • A swelling in the scrotum that is slowly growing
  • A heavy or dragging feeling
  • Swelling that is larger in the evening and smaller in the morning
  • Sudden pain or redness (needs urgent assessment)
  • Any scrotal swelling in a child that does not settle

Diagnosis and treatment

The surgeon examines the swelling and usually advises an ultrasound to confirm fluid and to check the testicle. Small hydroceles that cause no trouble can be watched. Larger or bothersome ones are treated by a short operation to remove the fluid sac.

  • Examination and scrotal ultrasound
  • Day-care hydrocele surgery under suitable anaesthesia
  • Treatment of any associated hernia
  • Follow-up and wound check

Recovery and aftercare

Most patients go home the same day. Wearing supportive underwear, resting for a few days and avoiding heavy lifting for the period advised help healing. Mild swelling and bruising are common and settle with time.
