What is a growth and development check?
We measure height, weight and head size, plot them on standard growth charts, and ask about milestones such as sitting, walking, talking and social skills. Looking at the pattern over time is more useful than a single reading.
Consider a check if your child
- Is much shorter, thinner or heavier than other children of the same age
- Is late to sit, walk, talk or make eye contact
- Has a poor appetite or is a very fussy eater
- Seems to lose skills they had before
- Has school or behaviour concerns you want to discuss
What happens at the visit
The doctor examines your child, reviews diet and sleep, checks vision, hearing and speech milestones as needed and suggests simple tests only if required. You get a clear plan for nutrition, activity and follow-up.

How often should my child be measured?
