Circumcision is a common minor surgery for boys and men. Dr. K. Praveen Reddy explains the right age, the procedure and aftercare before anything is planned, so you and your family are comfortable.
When is circumcision advised?
It may be done for cultural or religious reasons, or for medical reasons such as a tight foreskin that cannot be retracted, repeated infections or other foreskin problems. The surgeon examines first and advises whether it is needed and when.
Consider a consultation if
- The foreskin is tight, painful or will not retract
- There are repeated infections or swelling at the tip
- You want circumcision for religious or personal reasons
- There is bleeding, cracking or difficulty passing urine
- You want to know the best age and method for your child
The procedure
The procedure is a short operation with suitable anaesthesia for the age and condition. We explain the options, give pre-procedure instructions and review the wound after surgery.
- Consultation and examination
- Safe procedure by an experienced surgeon
- Pain relief and wound care guidance
- Follow-up visit
Recovery and aftercare
Most patients go home the same day. Mild swelling and discomfort settle in a few days with pain relief and keeping the area clean and dry, as advised.
