Some wounds, such as diabetic foot ulcers, pressure sores and wounds after infection or surgery, heal slowly. Dr. K. Praveen Reddy offers VAC therapy and advanced wound care to clean, protect and speed up healing.
What is VAC therapy?
VAC (vacuum-assisted closure) or negative pressure wound therapy uses a special foam dressing sealed over the wound and connected to a gentle suction device. It removes fluid, reduces swelling, improves blood flow and helps new tissue grow. It is used after the wound has been cleaned and dead tissue removed.
Wounds that may need advanced care
- Diabetic foot ulcers and non-healing foot wounds
- Wounds after infection, abscess drainage or surgery
- Pressure sores
- Wounds with a lot of discharge
- Any wound not healing in two to three weeks
Our approach to wound care
Healing starts with finding the cause, such as sugar control, circulation or infection. We clean the wound and remove dead tissue, choose the right dressing, and use VAC therapy where suitable. We also guide you on offloading the foot, footwear, nutrition and blood sugar control.
- Wound assessment and debridement
- Modern dressings and VAC therapy
- Infection control and antibiotics when needed
- Diabetic foot advice and regular reviews
Recovery and aftercare
Dressings or VAC changes are done at planned visits. Keep the area clean, avoid walking on a foot wound as advised and take medicines and diabetic care as prescribed. Healing time depends on the size and depth of the wound and on your general health.
Frequently asked questions
Is VAC therapy painful?
Most people feel mild pressure or tugging. Pain is managed and the dressing is changed carefully.
Who should not have VAC therapy?
It is not suitable for wounds with dead tissue left, untreated infection or certain bleeding risks. The surgeon decides after assessment.
How long does it take?
It varies from days to weeks depending on the wound.
